Hi there! I'm Jan (he/him), a Belgian software developer located in the Netherlands.
Ever since I was a kid, I have been interested in aviation. I was flying virtual planes in Microsoft Flight Simulator for Windows 95 when I was 12. At 16, I flew my first solo in an actual Cessna 152. At 18, I moved to Delft in the Netherlands to study Aerospace Engineering.
Throughout my studies, I always enjoyed writing code both in assignments and in my free time. By the time I wrapped up my PhD, I built a pretty nice toolbox with software, engineering, and communication skills.
I ended up finding my way as a software developer in the simulation field. I started out at Lockheed Martin working on a Boeing 787 full motion flight simulator. After a year and a half, I moved to TASS to work on simulation tools for the automotive industry. Initially I worked in the Prescan Real-Time team, but soon I moved to the Delft Tire Team to take up the role of lead developer.
Although I still like to get my hands dirty by writing code as much as I can, over the years, my focus has shifted much more to tackling the bigger picture. Most of my time is spend translating requests from customers and product management into technical requirements and architectural decisions to drive our products in the right direction. Having been admitted to the internal Siemens Software Architecture training program has give me even more tools to make a significant impact on the products and services we deliver to customers.
After all these years, I'm still driven by finding solutions for problems that look (and sometimes are) complex. I'm fascinated by the influence of communication between stakeholders on the identification of expectations, requirements, and problems. One of my main strengths is my ability to understand a wide variety of points of view and then subsequently bring all stakeholders together in a common understanding of the task ahead.
